Parenthood in Graduate School Town Hall

October 1 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

The goal of this townhall is to discuss associated struggles with parenthood as a graduate student at UofC, with respect to both academics and employment, culminating with key policy recommendations and advocacy points. Supported by the Graduate Students’ Association, the Graduate Labour Union, and Public Service Alliance Canada, this will be an accountable space for graduate students to come together and share their stories.
Children and families are welcome, but please indicate their attendance in the RSVP.
There will be door-prizes and snacks, including toys and grocery card raffles.
The event will last from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, but we have booked the space until 5:30 to give us ample time should discussions run long.
Who should attend?
  • Grad Student Parents
  • Grad Student Caregivers of Children
  • Grad Student Allies
What are the themes we will discuss?
  • Accessing parental leaves
  • Family housing
  • Availability of on-campus supports for families
  • Other themes as they emerge from your stories

If you have questions, feel free to contact GSA Vice President Academic Alexandria Poppendorf at vpa.gsa@ucalgary.ca. This event is in-person only, though we are considering hosting a virtual townhall on Zoom in late October.

This is a joint event between the Graduate Students’ Association, the Graduate Labour Union, and the Public Service Alliance of Canada.
